The human not of his age

Sometimes you meet someone a bit younger, or older, than you, and, as you get to know them, you say to yourself, "I wish I had met this person 30 years ago.", or something like that. Of course, as Spock would say, "Illogical." It's not just that 30 years ago you were both 30 years younger. Thirty years ago, you were two different people, and, despite the interests and attractions you experience now, back then you probably would not even have noticed each other. Sometimes, younger people can be farther apart in not just age, but in appreciation of others. Maybe it took that 30 years for each of you to become the person who could appreciate the other. There's an old saying, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." Perhaps that can be stretched to cover special friends, or a special kind of friend, as well. Whenever they appear, be grateful for their appearance at that moment. At another time their friendship might not have meant so much, or been so obvious to you.
